The Documentary Hypothesis is the theory that the Torah was redacted from four originally distinct documents. Although it has its challengers, it nevertheless remains foundational for academic biblical studies. In this session, we’ll use the famous story of Korah’s rebellion (Numbers 16) as a case study for how the Documentary Hypothesis attempts to make sense of confusing texts. We’ll see how it can reveal meaningful dimensions of the Torah that might otherwise be missed.
